String of pearls is one of the nice plants in house plants (succulents). This looks like same as the necklace with beads, looks awesome. This plant is easily affected by many factors, If they face a problem then the plant will change its color to brown, black, white, purple.

The main reason for the string of pearls turning brown is underwatering and high exposure to light. The string of pearls plants loves indirect sunlight but if we underwater and keep it in intense sunlight causes plant leaves to burn and turn brown (solution: give sufficient water & keep it in indirect sunlight).

Low or over-exposure light conditions and Overwatering or underwatering will make plants susceptible to weak and it gets diseases.

if we didn’t take good care at an earlier stage of the plant then it’s difficult to take care after. sometimes plants may even die.

Let’s look into what are the reasons behind brown spots on the string of pearls plant. I followed exactly the below steps to recover my plant from turning brown.

1. Underwatering String Of Pearls Plant Turn Brown.

Don’t water the plant blindly with the duration (1 or 2 days interval). Check the soil before you water the string of pearls plant.

Avoid watering if the top layer of the soil is already moist. you can check the soil moisture by moisture meter or simply by finger.

Water once or twice a week is more than enough for the string of pearls plant during summer, if it is winter then I only water once every week.

Solution:

  1. Check the soil before you water the string of pearls plant.
  2. Water if the top layer of the soil is dry.
  3. Usually i water twice a week, this can differ depending on climate contions, sun intensity and humidity.
  4. In dormant period we need to water less compared to summer because growth of plant will be reduced.

Water thoroughly but don’t overwater the plant. Ensure you have a drainage hole in the pot so that water won’t stay a long time in the pot.

If you Overwater leads to major problems like root rot and fungal infections, when a string of pearls plant overwatered, the plant will die if action is not taken in time.

You also need to take care of potting mix as if the water sits for more time, then it leads to another problem.

2. Over Exposure To Sunlight Or Any Artificial Light For String Of Pearls Plant Turn Brown.

To keep the plant healthy light is essential. The string of pearls can tolerate low exposure to sunlight. But it grows well in bright indirect light. If we keep in direct sunlight it cannot handle direct sunlight, leaves will be burned and will turn the plant to brown eventually.

Give six to eight hours of bright light to help the plant. It cannot tolerate the harsh afternoon sunlight.

3. Sudden Temperature change Shock

A string of pearls plant does better under room temperature. The sudden change that is rise or fall in temperature will give a shock to the succulent plants and cause black or brown leaves.

The shock will make the plant turn brown or black, Don’t expose the plant to cold or hot climate change.
